This Certificate in Kenyan Sign Language (KSL) at Midiff Institute, Nakuru, is designed to break down communication barriers and foster inclusivity within our communities. This practical programme offers a deep immersion into KSL, the primary language of the Deaf community in Kenya. You will gain not only linguistic competency but also a profound understanding of Deaf culture and etiquette. Graduates will be equipped to facilitate communication between the Deaf and hearing worlds, opening doors to numerous rewarding career paths and community service opportunities.

Course Objectives

• Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
• Understand and use fundamental and intermediate Kenyan Sign Language vocabulary and grammar.
• Conduct fluent conversations in KSL on a range of everyday topics.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and an understanding of the norms, values, and history of the Deaf community in Kenya.
• Fingerspell the Kenyan manual alphabet and use numbers proficiently.
• Interpret simple conversations and act as a facilitator in informal settings.
• Apply your skills in real-world scenarios, such as in educational, medical, social, or customer service environments.
